Fit for All at Hamilton School

Hamilton School is a special primary school based in Handsworth. All the children at the school have a diagnosis of autism and varying degrees of special needs. Hamilton’s Summer Club runs for the first three weeks of summer holidays and is open to children who attend the school. It will provide 25 places at 15 sessions lasting 10am-3pm and including lunch. Staff ratios of between 1:1 to 1:3 will ensure that children get a personalised experience.

Activities
At Hamilton there is a range of clubs related to the special interests the children have and the activities during the Summer Club will reflect these interests. The school is able to make exercise fun by offering outdoor activities in familiar spaces that have been previously risk assessed with individual children including:

  • bikes
  • sensory active area
  • ball pit.

As well as activities, such as circus skills, supported by Fit for All.

Outside exercise is part of a 20 minute rotating timetable which also includes indoor activities; games and exercises around food and cooking.

Food

Lunch will be prepared on-site and provided at the school although children are welcome to bring packed lunches as well. Children are offered healthy snacks throughout the day: staff work with them to explore different foods by using tuff trays that have been set up and laid out with a selection of fruit, vegetables, cereals, jelly etc. All staff involved in food handling are appropriately qualified and are used to providing food which meets the cultural and other requirements of the children.

The club is only open top children at Hamilton School and parents/carers should contact the school directly about a place at it.
