CASE STUDY: Square Peg Activities Summer 2021

Square Peg is a charity set up by parents to support children and adults with additional needs as well as their siblings, parents and carers: ‘supporting the whole family’.  The group runs inclusive Stay & Play; enables accessible sensory play; organises daytrips and social events for families; and provides Autism Awareness training for businesses and other organisations.

“Fit for All allowed our vulnerable children to attend fun activities, and sit down to eat food with each other.  This alleviated social isolation and anxiety as well as providing them with the opportunity to try new foods and activities.”

Square Peg delivered two 2 hour sessions per week day all through school summer holidays at its base in Sutton Coldfield. Parents and carers said:
  • “It was a great opportunity for Robbie and Sam to try out new things such as circus skills and science experiments.  Robbie became quite the stilt walker!  The food available was varied and healthy and I liked how it was presented throughout the session rather than at a set time as the kids didn’t need to stop their activity.”  Claire
  • “The activities were great, and all 4 kids were catered for regardless of their varying abilities.  They all enjoyed the food element – particularly the fruit and yoghurts.”  Ben and Pauline
  • “It was good to see Logan trying new foods because his friends were trying them, this wouldn’t happen at home.  He also enjoyed all the activities especially the Wizard Day, as he is a huge Harry Potter fan.”  Lauren.

Sharon from Square Peg summed up the benefits of Fit for All to the group’s children and families:
