Fit for All with Seven Up

Seven Up is a small charity set up as a group by local parents in and around Handsworth. The group runs creative and inclusive play and youth activities which are designed to include children and young people with SEND. This Summer, Seven Up is running two groups of 16 each at:

  • Rookery Children’s Centre – 9 sessions for 5-12 year olds
  • Crick Garden on Crick Lane – 8 sessions for 10-18 year olds

Sessions at Crick Garden will take place on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 25 July – 17 August inclusive. Sessions at Rookery CC will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 2 -18 August inclusive.

Activities

Play and youth work provided by Seven Up is enriched with arts and craft activities. Sessions are delivered outdoors and are physically active. Seven Up is commissioning an arts organisation to co-design and work alongside young people to create installations at both sites. There will be a trip to play day events as part of Birmingham 2022 on 3 August. The charity will seek to enable sailing opportunities for the youth group and will take advantage of enrichment activities available through Fit for All.

Food

Picnic lunches will be provided working with the Fit for All food partner, Change Kitchen. Both Seven Up and Change Kitchen have experience in sensitivities around food particularly with SEND children. All relevant staff have Level 2 Food Hygiene and Allergy Awareness training. Change Kitchen has public liability insurance covering food provision.

Seven Up sessions are suitable for children and young people with diagnoses including: ASD, ADHD, Global Delay and PMLD. Priority is given to SEND children who are already registered with Seven Up, but newcomers are welcome and able to register with the charity until the Fit for All project delivery commences at the end of July. Contact Seven Up to register. Registration is essential because the service provided by Seven Up is personalised to each child’s needs, interests and abilities.
