SEND is a set of initials that gets used throughout this website and beyond. It stands for Special Educational Needs and Disabled. When you complete your registers for HAF, you will need to say if a child or young person has Special Educational Needs or is Disabled. The short list below is designed to help.
When you fill in the register form, you just have to say YES or NO to the SEND question. You don’t have to give reasons or details.
SEND Factors
We say that if of these factors apply, then you should say YES to teh SEND question for a given child or young person:
- Has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or attends Special School
- Has (or is awaiting) a diagnosis that could reasonably lead to an application for an EHCP – this would include a referal to a speech and language specialist or an educational psychologist
- Has (or is awaiting) any kind of SEN support at school
- Is home educated and defines as ‘disabled’ or ‘having special educational needs’.
