Square Peg Activities is a parent-led charity set up in 2017 to support children and adults with additional needs as well as their siblings, parents and carers. The group runs free and inclusive Stay & Play sessions; organises daytrips; runs an after school club, a Box-fit class and a pre-school group. Square Peg Activities hosts monthly breakfast meet-ups, coffee mornings and signposting for parent/carers. The group has its own base in Sutton Coldfield with a sensory garden, forest garden and indoor play space. The building has a changing bed and hoist and is wheelchair accessible.
This summer, Square Peg Activities (SPA) will deliver a summer holiday club with 2 hour sessions every morning and afternoon and lunch every weekday of the school holidays except August Bank Holiday Monday. Sessions will be based at Square Peg’s base in Sutton Coldfield. Parents and carers will attend sessions with their children. Together with SPA staff and volunteers, this ensures an adult ratio of 1:1 Most of the children have a diagnosis of autism.
Activities
Activities will include a mixture of inclusive indoor and outdoor sensory play, forest school type activities and enrichment activities. These will include: circus skills, obstacle races, mini-farm, codebreaking, adventure play, den-building, clay work, NERF games and sports days. The high adult ratio enables a high degree of physical activity at most sessions. Many enrichment activities are also physically highly active, eg adventure play, sports days etc. Activities are customisable to allow for different interests, needs and abilities.
Food
Picnic lunches will be provided. Children are able to select their lunch from fruit and other healthy items according to their own needs and habits. Staff are trained in food hygiene and allergy awareness and support parents and chikldren in widening food choices and selecting more healthy items. Nutritional education will focus around the preparation and selection of lunches each day – again this will be highly personalised given the range of children involved.
Square Peg Activities offers activities from its base in Sutton Coldfield to a range of SEND children aged 5-16, many with a diagnosis of autism. The high adult ratio depends on parents/carers attending with children. You can make a Booking Enquiry using the Fit For All Booking Enquiry Form.
